Here in California, homelessness is an ever present issue. With a surging number of cases and numerous quarantines, the pandemic has not been kind to anyone. In a state that has a quarter of the nation’s homelessness population, lockdowns and staying at “home” may not be a viable option for everyone. While it’s important to be conscious of one’s own health, it’s also important to reach out to others who are in need.
In this newsletter, the Bay Area Youth Initiative (BAYouth) explores Bay Area’s homelessness crisis and the factors behind it. Included are interviews with medical professionals, reflections on personally donating to the homeless and an overview of plans made by local governments to help the nearby unhoused population. BAYouth’s mission is to inform the public through the lens of the younger generation and cover multi-faceted issues surrounding current events.
