Jesus must be the primary focus of our youth ministry efforts. Are your students all-in for their Lord and Savior? If not, how can you change that? What’s the key to growing young Christians who pursue Jesus for a lifetime? Read on to discover one youth worker’s insights.

I tend to keep magazine articles that pique my interest. Quite a stack was accumulating on my desk, so I worked my way through them again. One article was from the January/February 2014 issue of Group Magazine. Editor Rick Lawrence detailed some research about students being all-in for Jesus. What interested me most? He listed 5 reasons (or excuses) that prevent teens from being totally committed Christians.

5 Reasons Kids Aren’t All-in for Jesus

  1. I wish I knew more about how to have a day-to-day relationship with Jesus that made a difference in my real life.
  2. The greatest pressures I face are all somehow connected to relationships.
  3. Christianity, in the end, is primarily about being a good person.
  4. I have lots of doubts about my faith and often wonder if everything I say I believe is really true.
  5. I have a hard time believing many things in the Bible.

What can we learn from this?

The common denominator, I believe, is discipleship. That involves showing and teaching how to live with Jesus on a daily basis.
