As a bonus NFL player to our count — recently retired seventeen-year veteran QB Philip Rivers, who played with the Chargers for 16 seasons but finished his last year with the Indianapolis Colts, is a devout Catholic and the father of nine. Although faith was always the “center” of Rivers’ life, he says he finally “took ownership” of it in college.

Jesus is at the center of his marriage, Rivers says, and provides strength and grace for daily life. “Too many times we think we’ve fallen too far from God or we’re not worthy,” he said at The Rock Church in San Diego in 2017. “We’re all sinners, but we are [worthy] because of Jesus dying for us.”
